W&W Celebrate Loads Of New Music & Latest Rave Culture Live DJ Set
On Saturday W&W returned with the latest edition of Rave Culture Live, taking over their virtual Club Mythic world for the third time in the last year. With episodes 001 and 002 both in the Top 10 Tracklists of 2021, it’s safe to say that the anticipation for a new W&W DJ set has never been higher and the guys delivered! With 20+ unreleased tracks and loads of exclusive edits, W&W again raised the bar and we took some time to discuss their new music, Rave Culture Live success, future plans, and more!
Hey Willem, Ward, great to be back with you guys and we always cherish the chance to reconnect over these sets! Can you sum up Club Mythic Episode 003 for us in one sentence?
Thanks for having us! It’s going to be a mix of upcoming Rave Culture music, our own new releases as well as some of our latest music, spread out all over the dance music spectrum.
A new W&W set means fresh new IDs! Can you highlight some of the artists in this set that particularly stand out to you?
There’s going to be a lot of new music in there. Some of the names we’re super proud of are AXMO, KEVU and Sandro Silva. All making insane music lately!!!
One ID that stands out for us is your intro track from episode 002 of Club Mythic. Everyone has been asking and debating – is it a new collab, is it a remix of “Pull Me Closer” – can you share any details?!
Well we just made that one as the intro for episode 002, no real plans for it. It started as a random setup with the same sample that Britney Spears used in “Toxic,” then became a track and we thought for RCL002 the acappella from “Pull Me Closer” would fit nicely so we asked Dimitri for the vocals. But the song isn’t finished and there’s not really a plan for it now.
Earlier this year you released one of your most anticipated NWYR IDs, “The Lone Ranger.” What did it feel like to finally get to a release of the track?
Feels amazing to finally have this one see the light of day! We started this song years ago and we felt like the time was finally there to release it. Reactions have been amazing and the support is insane! So many DJs from so many different genres are playing it, really happy with that!
With the release you’ve also launched the new Rave Culture DYSTOPIA brand. What can you tell us about that concept, and what we can expect from it in the future?
Rave Culture DYSTOPIA is the deeper and darker side of Rave Culture, as you can hear in the first release. It takes place in the dystopian version of Rave Culture City. We already have quite a few releases lined up for it, some of which we will play in RCL 003 ;)
Last year you had two of the Top 10 Tracklists Of 2021 with your Club Mythic sets. Can you talk some more about that achievement and what the milestone means to you?
It means that a lot of people are interested in the songs that we play and that is the biggest compliment you can get as a DJ, so we’re super happy and grateful about that!
You’re also quietly sneaking up on episode 100 of Rave Culture Radio, congrats! Taking a second to pause and reflect, how would you sum up your journey and transition from Mainstage Radio to now?
It’s been a long ride with the radio show already, starting years ago with Mainstage Radio. We feel the community has grown a lot, especially since the change to Rave Culture Radio. People are more involved and we’re really happy about that.
Building off of the previous question, where do you see your sound as W&W headed in 2022 and beyond? You guys are always ahead of the pack and incorporating elements from all different genres, whether it’s trance, hard dance, or otherwise, and we’re curious to hear how you think things may continue to develop.
We always find out along the way which direction we want to go. Sounds are constantly changing and we see which ones we connect with and then implement elements from that sound into our own. Right now the deeper music is obviously leading and we love certain elements of it which you will hear in some of our upcoming releases. We do find it very important to not completely shift to these “new sounds” all the time, but rather incorporate small elements from it.
And as we look ahead towards the spring, what’s on your radar?
The world is opening up again and shows are coming back, so we can’t wait for touring to start again, festival season, and of course all of the great music that is going to come out. People are going to be more inspired than ever before!
