Mixmash's Newest Star: Keanu Silva
At 1001Tracklists, we are all about showcasing artist support and today we are excited to spotlight an artist whose tracks consistently are played by fellow DJs, Keanu Silva. It was about a year and half ago when the first plays of his massive track “Pump Up The Jam” started coming in and since then the track has racked up support in 139 tracklists. He followed that track up with the massive “Children” and then his Mark Villa collaboration “Lots To Say.” After teaming up with another of Mixmash’s rising stars, it seemed as if Keanu Silva’s future at the label was meant to be. Now signed exclusively to Mixmash he’s just released “Close 2 You” and the track features early support from Tiësto, Lucas & Steve, R3HAB, and many more big artists! Jumping right into “Close 2 You” – what was the initial inspiration and sketch for the track?
I had this layout on my hard drive which needed a good vocal. Some very talented songwriters I know came up with the idea for the vocal. It added perfectly to what I already produced and inspired me to do the final work on the track such as the funny vocal chops!
What was the production process like from that point on to finish the track?
To be honest, hard work, a lot of trial and error and a lot of sweat. But at the end I think it's always worth the effort. Also Mixmash was a great help for me with some great ideas and mastering the track!

The initial DJ support “Close 2 U” has been huge – Tiësto, R3HAB, Laidback Luke, Lucas & Steve – much like your previous releases. Is there anyone supporting your music who is particularly meaningful or surprising to you?
Every single artist supporting me is important and means a lot! And the more love and feedback I get from outside, the more I feel like I made the right choices and decisions! But of course it still feels unreal to me being supported by those big names – it’s overwhelming!
We are big fans of your Mark Villa collab – “Lots To Say,” and he’s another of Mixmash’s rising stars. How did you guys come to work together on the track?
Well, Mixmash brought us together! When I first got in touch with the Mixmash team we talked about possible releases for the future and besides my own projects they suggested a collaboration with their very kind and talented Mark Villa. So they connected Mark and I and we both stuck our heads together.

We had a great time brainstorming and producing the first drafts of our song. What I was reminded of during the whole process was when we got the chance to add the great vocals of F51. You never know what will happen to a song in an early stage, you keep changing a lot of things and reset a lot, but after that it really felt “complete” and “emotional.” It drove us into the right flow and everything went easy.
How’d you approach your own VIP mix of the track and what do you think makes that edit stand out?
I just wanted to check out a more clubby approach on the song that I had in mind after the release. I decided to give it a try and I am very thankful for all positive feedback on this one. Whilst the original version is a great tune on its own, I think the VIP mix adds one extra dimension in terms of festival/club atmosphere!
What does it mean to you to now be signed exclusively to Mixmash? What makes them a good fit for you and your music?
I really respect the whole Mixmash family. They are so well organized and such a positive team.

Visiting their headquarters in Amsterdam was a great experience and convinced me to take this step! It’s never just one guy doing music and starting a career, you won't survive the music market without a great team I think. Mixmash perfectly came into this venture with great ideas and concepts. It just feels right!
What are you looking forward to most this summer?
Of course to release a lot of new music from my end which will come to you soon;) Besides that I can’t wait to get started playing my first live events as soon as possible!
