Today we’re joined by Austrian DJ/producer Ely Oaks. Ely takes us through his journey into the world of electronic music. He discusses his new track “Koka Kola,” shares insights into his collaboration with Crash Your Sound and reflects on how consistency in content creation has been key to his success. Read on to find out more!

Hey Ely, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started as a DJ and music producer? What drew you into the world of electronic music?
Thank you for having me today. I was mostly influenced by my family as I had music producers amongst them. But it took me quite a while to be interested in electronic music. I was mostly into rock, metal or even hip hop, but a Skrillex remix on a metal album caught my attention. I then had my first gig at around 16, but it was not yet very professional.

How would you describe your style and the genres you’re most passionate about?
It’s hard to describe because I do a lot of different things that just feel right to me. I love high energy stuff, so whatever brings a powerful vibe is something I’d like to produce and write. There’s definitely influence from sub genres like UK garage, techno and trance.

Who were your biggest musical influences when you started out, and how have they shaped your sound over the years?
Definitely the early big bass music acts, like Skrillex who I've already mentioned. Additionally David Guetta always inspired me a lot because he has always managed to get electronic music into the charts. I’d say my influences come from so many different genres, but I was always most fascinated when music just got that crazy energy that makes you want to move on the dancefloor.

Your new track "Koka Kola" just dropped on Crash Your Sound. What was the inspiration behind this track, and how does it reflect your current musical direction?
When we wrote “Koka Kola” we definitely had a lot of fun doing it, as you could imagine. The lyrics are a bit unconventional for a dance record and with the production the goal was to try something completely new – tech house at 140 bpm. It sounds a bit funky but it actually works. It’s the only record I did so far that has a tempo change as well.

What does it mean to you to have support from the Crash Your Sound team, and what do you like about working with them?
It’s been a blast! They believed in the record from early on, actually had a great feeling about it before we even put it on TikTok. So there’s a lot of drive to get the most out of the record which is great!

You've gained a lot of traction in Eastern Europe. What do you think led to this growth?
It’s only speculation, but I think it is because the melody feels a bit like Eastern European songs. There was definitely not a plan to initially work the record in these territories, it just happened, especially because a lot of Eastern European TikTok creators picked it up and filmed videos with the sound.

How important is consistency in content creation for platforms like TikTok, and how do you balance that with your music production work?
Consistency is key in my opinion! Obviously you need to have good content as well, but only consistency makes your content better. I post on my socials at least once a day, so I always have time frames for filming content, but additionally I collect a lot of content from my live shows which makes it easier to have more time for production and songwriting. It is a fine balance, but it’s important to get it right in my opinion.

And finally, what can we expect from Ely Oaks for the end of the year?
A lot of new music and a lot more crazy content, so keep an eye on my socials, cheers <3
