400 Episodes of Russia Goes Clubbing
Celebrate with Bobina and enjoy the 400th epsiode of Russia Goes Clubbing!
Congratulations on reaching your 400th episode of RGC, how does it feel to reach this milestone?!
Thanks a lot. I’m happy, but a bit surprised to be honest. When I started with the idea of this radio show many years ago, I never expected it would be alive for such a long time.
How has the show evolved over time?
Through the years the show has changed quite a lot. It started as a one hour podcast on the Internet. Then it turned into a two hour radio show which I did live in Russian every week on DFM - one of the biggest FM stations in Russia. That show was also broadcasted on Digitally Imported Radio. Now it’s a one hour version on all platforms - FM radio, DI.FM, the Internet, and as an iTunes podcast in both Russian and English.
As for the music in the radio show - I think the listeners can tell you better, but as I see it, the music hasn’t actually changed that much as I always play different electronic music on the radio. The initial idea for the radio show came to me because I wanted to show a wider portion of electronic music compared to what you usually hear from me in the club.
How much time goes into preparing for each episode?
The amount of time differs by week, but I’m always working on the show throughout the week, sometimes even multiple times a day. There’s so much music nowadays, so I always try to check for new releases and collect interesting stuff in my Dropbox. At the end of the week, I check through the new music I’ve compiled again and select the final tracklisting.
How do you select tracks for each episode?
The main idea is just to make an ‘honest’ radio show. I will try to explain: I never look at the names or labels too much. For me, it doesn’t matter if I’m friends with a producer or hear his name for the first time. If it’s a track I like, I will play it. I hope listeners feel this, and this is the thing which keeps me interested in doing the show every week. If you don’t check our the larger amount of music out there and just support your friends, it will be boring I think.
Do you have a goal or objective for each episode of RGC?
I just try to make a mix, which people can listen to not only one time, but re-listen to for a half a year :) I know it’s almost impossible nowadays, but I try.
What can we expect from the 400th episode?
Every week I play a ‘Classique’ in the end of the RGC show, so in the 400th episode I think it’s a great idea to go back to my roots and select music which was popular when I just started the show. After so many years, all these tracks continue to sound absolutely great!
Enjoy the mix (SoundCloud also available here) and be on the lookout for something special from Bobina with us in the near future :)
